"Even the basic idea behind our filter systems for water dispensers came from the desire to reduce avoidable plastic waste in the form of water bottles and to minimize transport and storage costs," Neuhausen continues. Today, the water purifier's product development focuses on ways to recycle product components.
Filter Recycling Made Easy
BWT's own recycling program for filter cartridges returns exhausted filter cartridges to the materials cycle. For this purpose, the water optimizer provides dealers, manufacturers, and service organizations with free collection boxes. The filter cartridges recycled in this way are returned to the manufacturer as pure as possible and without contamination. There, they are broken down into their various components and reprocessed. In this way, up to 99 percent of the materials are integrated into the BWT recycling process and fed into a wide variety of areas.
Sustainable Water Systems in Africa
As part of the b.waterMISSION project, BWT water+more is constructing wells in Gambia and Tanzania. The aim of the initiative is to provide long-term and sustainable access to clean drinking water, especially in rural areas. The water points have an intelligent chip system that ensures sustainable operation and maintenance. Simplified and safe access to clean drinking water helps improve the health of the population, enables children to go to school instead of walking miles to a water point, and minimizes water waste. At this year's World of Coffee in Athens, BWT continued the project and so the six6 finalists of the World Barista Championship received a special gift: named namely personalized wells that provide clean drinking water in Africa.
To further improve its eco-balance, BWT water+more is constantly working on optimizing its production and recycling processes. Its position as a sustainability pioneer was underscored, among other things, by its nomination to the international circle of "50 Sustainability & Climate Leaders.".
