Updated: Nominations Are Now Open for the Coffee Roasters Guild Elections 2019-2021

Updated on November 21, 2019:

The CRG Advisory Council received a large number of nominations for the 2019-2021 elections and we want to send a big thank you to all CRG members for their interest in this important process. Due to the high number of nominations received, the CRG Nominations Committee will need a few more days than originally expected to interview each of the nominees. We have updated the elections timeline below to allow one more week of interviews and plan to announce a new slate on December 2 to all CRG members.

This post has been updated to remove the link to the nominations form as the nominations period has closed and to update the elections timeline.

Dear Coffee Roasters Guild Members,

Nominations are now open for the 2019-2021 CRG Advisory Council. This election is the second to take place since the unification of the Roasters Guild and Roaster Guild of Europe. This year, the CRG Advisory Council has three open positions.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for dedicated roasters who want to make a difference in the roaster community. In an effort to add geographic diversity to our group, we are also specifically encouraging people who are not living or working in North America or Europe to consider responding to the call for nominations. Of course, we do accept applications from North America and Europe as well.

Furthermore, we are keen on getting people on board who have a strong interest in sustainability and are willing to lead sustainability efforts within the CRG and its global community.

The 2019-2021 elections timeline is as follows:

  • Nominations: October 21 — November 8, 2019

  • Slate Announced: December 2, 2019

  • Petition Period: December 2 — December 16, 2019

  • Voting: January 6 — January 20, 2020

  • Announcement: January 27, 2020

What are the responsibilities of a member of the CRG Advisory Council?

The CRG Advisory Council is a group of elected leaders who volunteer their time to the Coffee Roasters Guild and who work with SCA staff to help deliver events and services to members of the coffee roasting community. Our volunteer leaders add intellectual, political, and social value to new and ongoing initiatives of the SCA, CRG, and the industry at large. Meet our current Advisory Council here.

Some of the general responsibilities of the Advisory Council responsibilities include:

  • Assisting SCA staff with developing strategic objectives on an annual basis, including recommendations for needed resources

  • Implementing objectives and activities according to the strategic plan and reporting progress on ongoing initiatives to CRG members and to SCA

  • Seeking to understand the needs of current CRG members and provide SCA staff with strategic input and direction on objectives

  • Providing a direct link and feedback to the SCA Board of Directors via the CRG ex-officio seat on the SCA Board of Directors

  • Attending two in-person CRG Advisory Council meetings per year, taking places in Europe and the Americas

  • Being available for virtual meetings as required (8-10 virtual meetings per year)

How does the CRG elections process work?

All nominations will be reviewed by the CRG Election Committee, consisting of the Immediate Past Chair Emilio Lopez, the Chair Sonja Grant (that's me), and current CRG Advisory Council members Jen Apodaca, Filip Bartelak, member of SCA’s ED&I Committee Siobhan Gottlieb and Richard Stiller, SCA staff.

Each nomination will be carefully read by the Election Committee and interviews will be carried out by the members of the committee. A slate of nominees will be selected from the nominee pool and will be announced on November 26. Email ballots will be sent to all CRG members on December 5 and the new Advisory Council members will be announced on January 15.

To learn more about the elections process, take a look at the CRG Bylaws, available on our website: https://www.crg.coffee/bylaws/.
